There has never been an official Apple accessory that?s annoyed me more than the iPad Smart Cover, a $40 add-on that didn?t even protect the backside of the device. Apple has finally remedied the situation today by offering the new iPad Smart Case.
The $50 iPad Smart Case acts much like the Smart Cover in that it can wake the iPad on opening and put the device to sleep on close, except this time it covers the whole thing. The Smart Case has a polyurethane design, comes in 6 colors, and costs $50.
Apple quietly added the Smart Case to its online store today in the hubbub of WWDC 2012, but it did not mention the accessory during its press conference. Perhaps because it?s a minor addition or perhaps because the team is embarrassed that it took more than a year to launch an accessory.
